Cotton Candy Rice Cereal Treats

First of all, you need to know how the heck I chose Cotton Candy Rice Cereal Treats for my recipe blog this week….

Every week I hold a “Ingredient of the Week” contest on my Facebook page.  I ask followers to comment with an ingredient and then I use that ingredient to create a recipe.  I love doing this because it gets my followers involved and it inspires me for my recipe of the week.  You guys come up with some pretty exciting ingredients, by the way.  Don’t be afraid to comment with savory items either, I’m not scared! haha… O.K. maybe a little.

I leave the comment section open for ingredients for 24 hours.  After the 24 hours, I have one of my kiddos randomly select an ingredient LIVE on Facebook.

This week a wonderful woman named Aubrey commented with Cotton Candy.  At first I was a little bit intimidated with this ingredient.  This stuff doesn’t hold up very well to heat or moisture.  It is very difficult to manipulate and it is basically disappears when you mix it with anything!  So, this week, it was more about the flavor of the cotton candy, rather than the texture.  And… it’s all about the KIDS!!!!!

We all know that today is HALLOWEEN!! We love Halloween at our house!  The best part is sneaking our kids candy when they aren’t looking.  Hahhaha… you know you do it to, you think you’re sooooo sneaky, don’t ya.  🙂

This is where the cotton candy comes into the picture…  why not take the cotton candy from your kids’ Halloween basket and make some delicious treats!  SCORE!!!  You and your kids will love to eat these yum snacks.  What’s even better is that rice cereal treats are so easy to make.

You can also add ANY Halloween candy to rice cereal treats.  I love adding crushed up Butterfinger, Snickers, Reese’s Pieces, heck, you could even try diced Sweedish Fish!  I mean..  why not? RIGHT!!   “Get in my belllllllyyyy”!

Now you know how easy and spectacular this treat is..  so after your kids get home with all the candy…  sneak the candy for some cotton candy rice cereal treats!   ENJOY!

-Bye for now

Ingredients

  • 16 oz mini marshmallows
  • 5-7 cups rice cereal
  • 1 stick salted butter
  • 2 ounces Cotton Candy
  • 1/2 tablespoon vanilla bean paste (or vanilla extract)
  • extra butter or non-stick spray for hands and dish

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium pot over low heat.
  2. Add marshmallows to the melted butter.
  3. Add vanilla bean paste.
  4. While marshmallows are melting, grease the 9x13" casserole dish for the rice cereal treats.
  5. To the melted marshmallow, butter, and vanilla, add about half of the cotton candy. Stir until completely melted.
  6. Grease a large plastic bowl with butter or non-stick spray. Add 5-7 cups of rice cereal treats; depending on how marshmallowy you want your treats 🙂
  7. Carefully pour your melted marshmallows and cotton candy into the large bowl with rice cereal.
  8. Using a greased spatula (or your greased hands), mix the marshmallows and rice cereal until fully combined.
  9. Turn out into greased 9x13" casserole dish.
  10. Spread out until your mixture fills the casserole dish.
  11. Garnish with left over cotton candy and serve immediately.

Notes

Do not garnish with cotton candy until ready to serve (it will grab the moisture in the air and basically disappear). Feel free to use any candy you have around the house!! Post your creations below!!
